Three days of being 'winded in' left us pretty eager to head out and start sailing again (that and the fact the temperature dropped to 40ish last night and we have no heater on this boat!). The tide was right for us to get out of Pelican Bay on Cayo Costa at 8:00 so we put breakfast on hold, bundled up (why on earth didn't I think of packing a winter wooly hat?!) and carefully inched our way over the shallow sandbar (depth 4'6" and we draw 4'6"). Made it with inches to spare!
We're now on our way to Key West. It is sunny and breezy - and I have
three layers of clothing on, including my heavy-duty, extra thick red
wool sweater! Tonight will be our first overnight sail and we're both
excited and a bit nervous about it. The winds are just right, from
the East (which was part of the reason for the long wait at Boca) and
the seas are 2-3 feet, good for the 24ish hours it will take us to get
there.
We'll take turns on watch and sleeping. Steve is looking forward to a
'cheeseburger in Paradise'. I am looking forward to being 10 degrees
warmer!
