It's been a bit of a holiday from fixing up the boat and rushing to get places, a chance to regroup and relax for a bit, secured on a mooring ball and in a well protected harbor. We were able to take some day trips off boat without worrying what it was up to without us on it. The weather has improved quite a bit since we first arrived and today's forecast was for winds of 10 to 15 knots and seas of 1-2 feet - wohoo, we're going sailing!
We've set off south again (because that's the best direction for us to go in these winds and because we want to be in Key West for New Year's Eve (how cool is that?!). There should be lots going on and, if we can stay up late enough, a really good fireworks display - which if we're really lucky we'll be able to see from the boat (again, how cool is that?!!!). We're taking two leisurely days to get down there.
The forecasted 10 to 15's were a bit more like 5 to 10, but better too little than too much particularly with this being Jess and Matt's first trip sailing since the summer. We'll take it easy to start, thank you. Light green seas, small waves and sun all the way. We made our anchorage in Newfound Harbor (which I had previously and erroneously reported as the Niles Channel - good thing I only got the name wrong!). It was an uneventful trip - we like those very, very much!
Jess tested out her crab trap to see if her luck was any better than mine! She'd caught her first crab within an hour!
